Oklahoma City Personal Injury Lawyer Daniel M. Davis Comments on Fatal Boat Accident
Oklahoma City, OK (PRWEB) July 22, 2013 -- Oklahoma personal injury lawyer Daniel M. Davis of the Daniel Davis Law Firm today said a recent fatal boating accident serves as a reminder that boaters should always make safety a top priority.
Davis made his comments after learning about a fatal accident reported in the Tulsa World on July 8 (“Boat driver in fatal crash on Lake Eufaula turns self in”). A McAlestar, OK man recently turned himself in to police several days after the boat he was believed to be operating on Lake Eufaula in Oklahoma struck two boats and killed a person on July 4th, according to Tulsa World report.
“It’s easy to forget just how powerful and dangerous motor boats can be,” said Davis, who represents victims of negligence and families who lost loved ones in accidents. “The July 4th accident is still under investigation, but fatal boating accidents unfortunately can happen any time during the warm weather months in Oklahoma. I recommend that boaters take an approved safety course so they can fully understand their responsibility when on the water. A course can help them understand the boating laws in Oklahoma and know what to do if an accident happens.”
Davis said a boater who breaks a law can be held responsible in an accident resulting in serious injuries or death.
According to Tulsa World, the man who is believed to be the boater turned himself into the McIntosh County District Attorney’s Office on July 8, four days after the accident.
A 55-year-old man died in the accident, which took place just after 10 p.m., about a mile east of Eufaula Cove, according to the Tulsa World article. Two young girls were also injured in the boating accident and treated at Oklahoma City hospitals, Tulsa World reported.
“People need to remain at the scene of any boating accident,” Davis said. “By fleeing the scene of an accident, a person may not only be breaking the law, but may be leaving an injured person behind who needs assistance.”
Davis said anyone injured in a boating accident or anyone whose loved one was killed in an accident should discuss their legal options with a personal injury lawyer. An attorney can help the victim pursue compensation for his or her losses. By filing a boating accident lawsuit, the victim also can send a message that reckless behavior will not be tolerated, Davis said.
