OnBoard and KPMG LLP Announce Results of Prestigious Award 2014 Lettie Pate Whitehead Evans Award Recipient: Betsy Camp, Board of Directors for Synovus
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) November 14, 2014 -- OnBoard, the leading authority of women in the boardrooms of Georgia public companies and catalyst for increasing female directors on all for-profit company boards, announces the recipient of its 12th annual Lettie Pate Whitehead Evans Award. Elizabeth W. “Betsy” Camp, President and CEO of DF Management, Inc., was honored at OnBoard’s Annual Awards Dinner on Nov. 13, 2014.
Since 2003, Betsy Camp has served on the board of directors for Synovus, currently chairing the Audit committee and a member of the Executive, Risk and Compensation committees. Her previous corporate board experience includes Citizens First Bank, a division of Synovus Bank and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia.
While supported by many, her nomination for the Lettie Pate Whitehead Evans honor was led by Kessel Stelling, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Synovus. He writes, “There is no one who better epitomizes the spirit of this award than Betsy. As the first female to chair the Board’s Audit Committee, she is one of the most highly respected members of Synovus’ Board of Directors, serving as an advocate for effective corporate governance and risk oversight. She inspires others through her own stories of success, including her leadership over the modernization of a family business that resulted in remarkable revenue growth, the creation of hundreds of jobs, and the naming of several women to key leadership positions.”
Camp is also active in the community having served on several charitable and non-profit boards including her current roles on the boards of University of Georgia Terry College Dean’s Advisory Council and the Riverwood International Charter School Foundation. Camp has also held board positions with the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, Georgia Department of Industry, Trade and Tourism, and the Darlington School. She founded the Gender Gap Foundation in 2006, which provides funding for the advancement of educational facilities and opportunities, and is designed to inspire other women’s generosity.
Qualifications for the Lettie Pate Whitehead Evans Award included an overall commitment to professional excellence, excellence in her business profession or community leadership, advocating more diversity on corporate boards, and supporting women in realizing their full potential. From a host of nomination letters, Camp’s character and reputation as “an incredibly talented director” who “thoroughly understands her role as a board member and leader” is clear. She is credited with making companies and organizations better “because of her contributions as a knowledgeable, passionate and totally plugged-in and engaged member of the Board.”
“When we review nominations for the Lettie Pate Whitehead Evans recognition, we consider many outstanding women who have notable careers and serve as outstanding role models for advancing the mission of OnBoard,” says Jackie Parker, president of OnBoard’s Board of Directors and founder and managing partner of JWP Consulting LLC. “Betsy rose to the top this year given her considerable experience and expertise as a highly-effective board member and leader who is particularly effective in board governance and diversity matters. She is widely known as a champion of women on boards and in senior management positions, and we are honored to have her among our prestigious group of recipients.”
The Lettie Pate Whitehead Evans Award, sponsored by KPMG LLP, is designed to recognize women serving on for-profit corporate boards. It is named in honor of Lettie Pate Whitehead Evans, one of the first women to serve as a director of a major American corporation. In 1934, she was appointed to the Board of Directors of The Coca-Cola Company, a position she held for nearly 20 years.
OnBoard’s Annual Awards and Study Dinner held Nov. 13 was the 22nd anniversary of the OnBoard study reporting on the state of women leadership in Georgia.
