One Feather Consulting and Senecas Strong to Deliver "Condition Management" Wellness Program for the Seneca Nation of Indians
Irving, NY (PRWEB) January 20, 2015 -- One Feather Consulting (http://www.onefeatherconsulting.com), a provider of employee assistance (EAP) and disease management services to Native Nations and the Indian gaming industry, today announces a community wide substance abuse condition management program for the Seneca Nation of Indians. Building on the Senecas Strong movement, One Feather will provide the Seneca Nation of Indians community with access to its telephonic assessment, coaching, support, and referral while proactively engaging "at-risk" members. The Senecas Strong/One Feather program will provide a 24 hour/365 day hotline for confidential assessment and short term coaching, as well as referral to on-territory and off-territory care, outpatient counseling, and related services. The program will incorporate a validated outcomes tool to provide individualized substance abuse condition management for all participants.
“Basing this program on long-held traditions of forgiveness, truth, and healing will go a long way in achieving our main goal: decreasing the drug and alcohol abuse within the community,” said Michael Snyder, Director of the Senecas Strong program.”Teaming with One Feather gives us the expertise, strategic planning, outreach, program evaluation, and a resourceful condition management service that will be essential to our success. We have effectively collaborated with community groups on efforts such as Sobriety Pow Wow, Sober 49, and will be initiating a Big Brother/Big Sisters Program in the very near future -- together with the Senecas Strong program; we expect to see a dramatic decline in substance abuse and an increase in wellness across all segments of our community."
The Seneca Nation of Indians has a population of over 8,000 enrolled members. For Native American tribes in the Northeastern part of the US--alcohol and substance abuse is a historical concern. According to the United Southern Eastern Tribes Epidemiology Center, the rate of substance abuse use across the eastern region of the United States was 4.0% in 2003, 2.5% in 2004, and 4.6% in 2005. Roughly 92% of all diagnosis were among 18 years and older.
Dr. Rodney Haring, founder of One Feather Consulting, stated, "There is a growing need to find innovative means to address health disparities in our communities. As a Native-owned company, we understand and bridge the diverse social structures, traditions, and environmental culture of Native Peoples into our programming. We look forward to working with the Seneca Nation in providing a proactive community wide behavior management ancillary support mechanism, focusing on substance abuse, assessment, referral, linkage, outreach, and healthy lifestyle choices."
Along with their internal training team, One Feather has also engaged the support of specialists from the American Indian and Alaska Native Addiction Technology Transfer Center Network. Working in conjunction with Chestnut Global Partners, a provider of culturally-aware wellness programs to companies worldwide, and their substance abuse research division, Lighthouse Institute, One Feather utilizes an outcomes-based approach designed by Chestnut's team of doctorial-level behavioral scientists.
Aspects of the collaboration were filmed by Western Door Productions-- a Native American owned production company operated by actor and producer Gary Sundown. A short video can be viewed by following the link: (http://youtu.be/2HXMwQewRLA)
