Online Program Offers Resources to Assist in School Re-entry after Burn Injury or Traumatic Loss
Grand Rapids, Michigan (PRWEB) November 18, 2014 -- Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors has launched an online version of its school re-entry program, The Journey Back. The program, already in over 106 hospitals across the country, was developed in collaboration with experts in burn care, education, trauma, child development, mental health, fire prevention and families who have been through a traumatic burn or loss, to consider all aspects of a successful return to school. The online program allows for teachers, school professionals, parents, and peers to quickly access information to assist a child in the school re-entry process after a burn injury or traumatic loss.
“One of my favorite aspects of the new format is that it can be available as soon as the planner needs the information. Often we get calls from desperate professionals that have a child coming back to school on only a couple days notice. They need information as soon as possible to help support a student that often is the first of its kind in their helping role. Now they can have instant access and can offer more support to the kids, their families, fellow students and the school community for a smooth transition back to school after burn injury or traumatic loss”, said Amy Clark, Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors.
Phoenix Society worked closely with a national multidisciplinary team of experts to ensure the inclusion of all necessary tools to support any child going back to school whether recovering from a burn injury or faced with the challenges of returning after a traumatic loss in their family. The program offers flexible, high quality materials and information for the novice presenter to confidently support a child’s return to school or augment a seasoned presenters current program. The Journey Back provides user-friendly, practical information that is based upon a sound trauma-informed and child-focused foundation.
