Open Enrollment Begins for LSF Head Start and Early Head Start in Duval County
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (PRWEB) July 07, 2015 -- Lutheran Services Florida (LSF), the Head Start and Early Head Start grantee in Duval County, is boosting enrollment efforts for the upcoming school year. Due to a Childcare Partnership Grant, the organization will serve an additional 100 children through its Early Head Start program starting in August. As the largest nonprofit Head Start Grantee in the Southeast U.S. and one of the largest in the country, LSF has expanded to a total of 1,712 openings, or 1,403 for Head Start and 309 for Early Head Start.
LSF officials are encouraging parents to enroll or re-enroll their child as soon as possible, as slots often fill up fast. Children currently enrolled in the 2014/2015 school year are not automatically re-enrolled, so parents must contact their FACE specialist to re-register. Parents new to the program can enroll for Head Start at the following locations: 8th Street Center, A.L. Lewis Center, the Don Brewer Early Learning Center, North Shore Elementary, Pearson Head Start Center, Smart Pope Livingston Elementary and Southwind Villas. Both the Brewer Center and the Pearson Head Start Center are available for Early Head Start registration.
“We’ve seen these programs help so many students over the past 10 months and we’re thrilled to be able to serve more children for the upcoming school year,” said Executive Vice President of LSF Children and Head Start Services, Louis Finney. “Our programs have been a tremendous benefit to families and we’re urging eligible parents to take action and enroll as soon as possible.”
Head Start and Early Head Start are federally-funded programs for low-income families with infants and children to age five, including those with special needs. Parents must meet federal poverty guidelines in order to qualify and provide documentation to determine eligibility including proof of income, the child’s birth certificate, verification of residency and a photo I.D.
Head Start and Early Head Start programs in Duval County operate through most of the year, ending August 7 and starting again on August 24. For the fall, sessions will run from 7:30-3:30. In addition to Duval County, LSF is a Head Start Grantee in Palm Beach County, Pinellas County and the City of Belle Glade.
Families looking to start the enrollment process can call 904.423.8637 and parents interested in registering their children in the home-based Early Head Start program can call the Children’s Home Society of Florida at 904.493.7744 or 904.493.7818.
