Open House Event Hosted for Parents Researching Schools for the Fall
Houston, TX (PRWEB) December 31, 2015 -- On Jan. 18, Saint Thomas' Episcopal School (STE) is hosting a Kickin' it with Kindergarten and K-Bridge observation for parents researching schools for the fall. The program will consist of a short presentation by the Head of Lower School, an introduction of the Kindergarten and K-Bridge teachers, observing Kindergarteners during their physical education class, and an optional campus tour for parents. The program begins at 9:30 a.m. and should last approximately an hour.
Head of the Lower School, Melissa Vogeley, provided numerous characteristics that make Kindergarten and K-Bridge distinctive at STE.
"Of our three primary teachers in these grades, one has 19 years of teaching experience, another has 20, and the third has 23! These teachers are incredibly skilled at instructing the fundamentals that students continue to build on in grades 1 through 12 at STE. Our kindergarteners learn to add and subtract double digits, participate in an advanced reading program, benefit from two movement periods per day (one structured and one unstructured), and regularly participate in music, art, dance, and library learning. This range of curriculum is becoming increasingly rare or nonexistent in many schools, particularly in public education," Vogeley said.
The K-Bridge program at STE engages children who have mastered most of the material in pre-school, but may benefit from reinforcement in key areas to ensure their success in kindergarten the following year, allowing for confidence and growth. It is for children with summer birthdays who are five years old or will turn five prior to Jan. 1. The focus in K-Bridge is developing greater visual perception skills, visual motor integration, and auditory processing skills through a multi-sensory approach in the reinforcement of numbers and phonics.
Reservations for Kickin' it with Kindergarten and K-Bridge should be made and sent to admissions(at)stes(dot)org or by calling 713-666-3111 by Jan. 18.
