Open Mesh Simplifies Networking with Launch of Cloud-Managed Switches

Open Mesh has focused primarily on WiFi access points managed through their cloud-based software-defined-networking platform, CloudTrax. With the addition of a switch line, Open Mesh says they are simplifying more of the network for IT professionals who can now manage switches and access points through a single pane of glass.
“Service providers and integrators love our easy, centralized cloud-management of WiFi access points,” said Craig Tiffany, Open Mesh’s Vice President of Sales. “However, we kept hearing that the management of the switches these access points are connected to is a significant pain point because they require additional vendors, management tools and potentially high annual fees for cloud-managed solutions. We’re eliminating this pain through our new line of switches.”
Because S Series Switches are managed in the cloud, users can build, manage and monitor networks from any browser or mobile device. Unlike vendors such as Cisco Meraki, Aerohive or Aruba, Open Mesh includes the cloud license with the cost of the switch hardware, so there are no additional licensing fees.
Tiffany says the S Series, like Open Mesh access points, make remote deployments easy and scaling up worry free. Customers can configure a switch from anywhere without ever touching it; once the switch has power and Internet, it’ll connect to CloudTrax to get its configuration and start reporting data.
“The primary reason I use Open Mesh products is the sheer simplicity of them,” said Chad Monroe, CEO at TelcoGeek, an IT services provider based in Santa Barbara, California. “Configuration of other switches can be extremely cumbersome. A single switch can take upwards of 60 minutes to pre-provision before going on site for installation. Compare that to the 10 minutes I spent in CloudTrax to provision an Open Mesh switch, all completely offline. The first time I powered up the switch was at the installation, and it grabbed configuration and the latest software from CloudTrax in under five minutes.”
With layer 2 management features, customers can remotely enable, disable or power cycle ports, set VLANS and PoE budgets, view power consumption overall and per port and more. The S Series features PoE+ (802.3af/at) up to 30W on all ports and a generous power budget, providing flexibility to power all kinds of IP devices.
The S Series is available in three models:
The S8 includes 8 gigabit ethernet PoE+ ports plus two gigabit ethernet uplinks and two SFP slots for longer, site-to-site connections with fiber. The S8 includes a 150 Watt PoE budget and can be rack or desktop mounted. The S8 retails for $299.
The S24 and S48 include 24 and 48 gigabit ethernet PoE+ ports along with four SFP slots and 370 and 740 watt PoE budgets, respectively. The S24 and S48 retail for $749 and $1399.
