OpenEd Announces Resources and Assessments That Support Teaching and Learning for More Than 185,000 Teachers and Nearly 4 Million Students Nationwide
PHILADELPHIA, PA (PRWEB) June 29, 2015 -- Today at ISTE 2015, OpenEd, creator of the world’s largest online library of standards-aligned resources for K-12 teachers, announced that the number of teachers using the company resources and assessments grew more than 25 percent every month during the 2014-15 school year and is now more than 185,000. In addition, content from the online library reaches nearly 4 million students across the country.
“Tens of thousands of teachers from around the world access our resources for personalizing learning directly from our website,” said Adam Blum, CEO of OpenEd. “Even more impressive than the reach of our resources is that educators are telling us that their students are realizing remarkable learning gains using them.”
For example, Brooke Johnston, a second-grade teacher at Alpine Elementary in Grand Rapids, Michigan, said, “After using OpenEd to differentiate learning in math class, 100 percent of my students demonstrated growth this school year. On average, my students’ scores on the NWEA Math test were 21 points higher this spring compared to their fall scores—eight points higher than the typical growth for this test.” (Typical growth for this test is 13 points per year.)
And Maria Sohns, a seventh-grade English teacher in rural Indiana, says her school uses Acuity testing from McGraw Hill to gauge how students are progressing toward meeting standards. At the beginning of the year, her students were at 30 percent attainment on the citing text evidence in literature standard and 34 percent on the citing text evidence in nonfiction standard. At the end of the year, they had realized gains of more than 31 percent on citing text evidence on literature and 10 percent on citing evidence in nonfiction.
“I was very happy with the improvement they made in these areas,” she said.
