OpenOutlet: First App of Its Kind Locates Open Outlets to Charge Mobile Devices
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) March 08, 2016 -- Innovative App Entrepreneur Richard Lee has just launched an innovative new app, OpenOutlet, which helps locate open outlets globally where people can charge their mobile devices when they’re low on battery. (The common social media hashtag for this condition is #lowbattery). This free app makes it quick and easy to locate nearby outlets anywhere around the world using GPS. Then, people can use the OpenOutlet app to share the locations of these outlets with others.
“Our goal is to help solve #lowbattery using software and crowdsourcing. Since there’s no single database of outlets in venues like airports and shopping malls, OpenOutlet users will create this content and share it with others who need this information,” said Richard Lee, the IT entrepreneur that conceptualized this project. “The app will be invaluable to anyone with a mobile device, whether they spend time at coffee shops or are roaming around a city. When they need to charge their phone but don’t know where to find an open outlet, they’ll now have instant access to this important information – right at their fingertips.”
OpenOutlet uses FourSquare to provide a convenient list of nearby venues – including coffee shops, retail stores, airports and more – where users can recharge phone batteries. Users can also login with Twitter to share the outlets they find via social media, with the hashtag #lowbattery in conjunction with the hashtag #openoutlet.
The hashtag #lowbattery represents someone’s final moments with single digit battery life, and OpenOutlet’s attempt to solve a premature low battery issue using social media.
“While Apple’s mobile devices have skyrocketed in popularity, Apple has made no major enhancements to battery capacity. Other companies’ attempts to make charging kiosks have mostly failed, leaving users to ‘fend for themselves,’” Lee explained. “This app offers a solution, taking the sting out of asking establishments if they have an outlet to charge a powerless phone. It also allows users to recognize establishments that do have outlets and charging cables – and to share that information with others.”
Lee is encouraging early adopters to help grow this content, knowing that user input will make this app more valuable for everyone. Additionally, Lee's team wants user feedback on ways to improve the app and new features that would be helpful.
Currently, the OpenOutlet app is available for the iPhone, but is expected to expand to Android devices as well.
