Toronto, ON (PRWEB) May 11, 2015 -- The Ontario Police Technology Information Cooperative (OPTIC) and Xanalys Limited – The Investigation Software Company™ announced today that the two parties are in a pilot project of technology designed to help police officers across Ontario gain better insight into investigations through powerful data visualization and link analysis technology. Link analysis software helps analysts and investigators understand hidden connections between people, places, and things within the course of an investigation.
OPTIC is one of the largest law enforcement data-sharing cooperatives in North America with over 9,100 officers from 43 Police and Law Enforcement agencies and the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) using a single records management system (RMS) from Winnipeg-based Niche Technology. Within the OPTIC community, all general police domain data such as incidents, police reports, and digital mug shots is shared. Xanalys' Link Analysis software is designed to help officers quickly access this shared data through an intuitive, visual representation of the underlying RMS data.
“Our software, Link Explorer Enterprise (LEE) is powerful link analysis software designed to visually indicate to officers how individuals and incidents are connected, despite deliberate attempts by criminals to hide those relationships”, said Douglas Wood, Xanalys’ VP of Corporate Development. “With this proof of concept in place, we believe that law enforcement officials will be more informed and productive through visual representations of patterns that are otherwise difficult to detect.”
“The mission of OPTIC is to enhance public safety in Ontario by providing state-of-the-art information technology and data management systems”, added Paul Hamelin, executive director of OPTIC. “We hope that the proof of concept underway with Xanalys gives officers the information they need in a format they can easily digest. It would be yet another significant step in the ongoing process of ensuring that Ontario law enforcement officers have the information they need to better serve their communities.”
Another of Xanalys’ products, PowerCase™, is currently used by the Ontario Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services as the core technology behind the province-wide Major Case Management (MCM) initiative. PowerCase is used by all Ontario police forces to investigate major crimes including murders, sexual assaults, and abductions.
The pilot project is expected to run through spring of 2015.
