Optimum Seismic to Present Seminar on Soft Story Ordinance at AAGLA Expo
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) April 05, 2016 -- Optimum Seismic this week will present information on the City of Los Angeles’ new earthquake retrofit mandate and how it impacts soft-story structures such as apartments and office buildings.
The presentation will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Apartment Association of Greater Los Angeles’ annual Multi-Family Expo being held at the Shrine Auditorium & Expo Hall, 665 W. Jefferson Blvd., in Los Angeles. Attendance is free.
The City of Los Angeles last year enacted the nation’s most sweeping seismic regulations, requiring earthquake retrofits of wood-framed, soft-story structures: a type of architecture commonly used in L.A. for apartment buildings, with parking situated on the ground floor, and dwelling units built above it.
The seminar will address the law, the timeline for taking action, and the usual steps to be followed in a thorough retrofit process.
The Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety recently began issuing courtesy letters to owners of soft-story buildings, advising them of the upgrades required of their property. Owners of soft-story buildings have two years from the date they receive their order to either submit proof that the building doesn’t need retrofitting, or to provide plans for a retrofit or demolition.
