Orbital Travel Releases TV Documentary About Ancient Egypt
Buntingford, Hertfordshire (PRWEB UK) 30 July 2014 -- The 20 minute programme will initially be shown on Estuary TV, one of the new local Freeview TV channels in the UK. Filmed during a ten day shoot on board one of Orbital Travel’s Nile Cruisers, the programme features some of the most stunning architectural achievements in human history.
The Pharoahs of ancient Egypt engineered colossal construction projects building many monuments, statutes and temples in their own names and in the names of their gods. Some of these can still be seen today, thousands of years after they were constructed.
The programme begins with the Giza plateau, near Cairo, famous for its three pyramids which were originally encased in blocks of white limestone. The Pyramid of Khufu is the oldest and largest of the three pyramids and is the only remaining structure of the original Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
The documentary then follows in the footsteps of a Nile Cruise, beginning at Luxor, visiting Karnak Temple, Luxor Temple, the Colossi of Memnon and the Valley of the Kings. Karnak is the biggest temple complex in the world, renowned for its Hypostyle Hall with its gigantic columns and whose buildings span a long period in Egyptian history. Next is Luxor Temple whose main entrance faces Karnak, and not the river, and is lined with an avenue of human headed Sphinxes.
Finally the programme completes its journey visiting Esna Temple, one of the last temples to be built in Ancient Egypt with the roof of its Hypostyle Hall still intact; the Temple of Horus at Edfu, the best preserved of all the temples in Egypt and the only one known to have been completed; the unusual temple of Kom Ombo, and the Temple of Isis on the island of Philae.
John McCallum, Orbital Travel’s Managing Director, commented: “We are absolutely thrilled that our TV documentary has been released as we have very much wanted to make the most of the footage we shot. The programme really showcases the sites of Ancient Egypt with its wealth of history and culture.”
A TV advert was also filmed as part of the documentary, which is shown during the programme break, and highlights the temples and tombs of Ancient Egypt which can be visited, as well as a taster of what life is like on board.
The documentary and advert can be viewed on Orbital Travel’s Youtube page.
