Organic Mattress Manufacturer Celebrates 38 Years Of Being In Business

The Futon Shop has been around since 1976 as a Family owned California mom and pop shop, which has grown from a few handmade futon mattresses a month, to shipping around the United States over 33 different kinds of futon mattresses.
The Futon Shop futon mattresses were sold by word of mouth in the beginning and the desire to sleep on natural fibers was a growing movement. In California there was a large population of naturalists wanting to sleep and eat all natural and from the Earth.
Around 1979 The Diamonds moved to San Francisco from Los Angeles with the grand opening of their first store in San Anselmo. The name, The Futon Shop, began at this location and people around the bay area started flocking to the shop that sold natural bedding without any chemicals.
About a year after an increase in customers requesting for more futons, The Futon Shop starting purchasing futon frames for their mattresses. And so began the transforming couch to bed Futon sofa bed that William Brower Developed. William Brower, a Boston Architect designed a black walnut hardwood futon frame that transformed into three parts. This is what we call a loveseat presently. This beautifully functional piece of art and furniture design was displayed in the Arts and Craft Museum of Modern Art in New York. The functionality and comfort of futons took off and The Futon Shop opened their first selling showroom in San Rafael, California. The Diamonds needed to open a warehouse in Corte Madera California to keep up with the high demand of loyal customers because the demand for futons became a highly demanded piece of furniture.
Over the Past few decades, The Futon Shop has sold to families all around the nation. Countless stories are told to salespeople throughout the years about grandchildren bringing in their grandparents, sisters bringing in their nephews for dorm furniture, families purchasing beds for their next vacation in their home in the mountains.
