Bohemia, NY (PRWEB) August 30, 2013 -- Bellucci Premium, a producer of quality olive oil, comments on an article that details how the popular Mediterranean diet may aid in the prevention of strokes.
According to an Olive Oil Times article published on August 19th titled “Mediterranean Diet May Interact with Genes and Prevent Stroke,” a Mediterranean diet may help reduce strokes in those who carry a specific gene. This gene, Transcription Factor 7-Like 2 (TCF7L2), is associated with the development of diabetes.
Researchers at Tufts University and the Biomedical Research Networking Centers in Spain have been conducting research on the gene in question and whether or not the Mediterranean diet has an effect on it. The article states that 7,000 men and women were involved in “a large randomized clinical trial of dietary intervention in persons at high risk of cardiovascular disease, to evaluate whether the Mediterranean diet prevents cardiovascular diseases compared to a low-fat diet.”
Research showed that individuals who had two copies of the gene and were eating the Mediterranean diet “had a reduction of stroke incidence, lower blood glucose levels and lower cholesterol levels,” according to the article. Those who did not follow the diet were “three times as likely to have a stroke compared to people with one or no copies of the gene variant.”
The results of the study showed that the Mediterranean diet, which is rich in olive oil, helped those who had a copy of the gene and decreased their susceptibility to strokes by about threefold.
Natalie Sexenian, marketing manager for organic olive oil producer Bellucci Premium, believes that this new study is great news and helps validate the healthy benefits of the Mediterranean diet. “This study shows how the Mediterranean diet, which is rich in the ingredient olive oil, can improve upon someone’s overall health,” she says. “Lowering stroke susceptibility without the use of medication is a great discovery. Hopefully this study will encourage others to look to natural ingredients and diets to help improve health.”
Bellucci offers three different types of oil, including an organic option, with a mild peppery flavor and fruity undertones that will satisfy any palate. Bellucci Premium Toscano extra virgin olive oil uses olives that are grown on the beautiful landscapes of Tuscany, and maintained by 3rd and 4th generation farmers.
