Organizers of the Stache Pag Announce the First Annual Portland Facial Hair Fest This March
Portland, Maine (PRWEB) January 29, 2014 -- The first annual Portland Facial Hair Fest, a celebration of facial hair, is set to take place March 26-30 at Ocean Gateway and a few other locations in Portland. The Facial Hair Fest features all sorts of delightfully hairy good times, including the 7th annual Stache Pag (a moustache pageant), the Facial Hair Farmers’ Market, the Canadian/American Beard and Mustache Competition, the Stash of the Titans and the International Moustache Film Festival.
"The ‘Stache Pag’ has been going for seven years and facial hair fans can’t seem to get enough. So we decided it was time to grow the Pag into a full on facial hair extravaganza," said Nick Callanan, co-organizer of the Portland Facial Hair Fest. “And, as the furry locals can attest, Portland is obviously the best city in the world for this to happen.”
Part of the proceeds from this event will go to Maine Ultimate, a local non-profit committed to promoting the sport of youth ultimate frisbee in Maine by sponsoring teams, leagues, and events.
The schedule of events for the Portland Facial Hair Fest includes:
Wedenesday March 26 – Stash of The Titans – ZZ Top vs Queen - a special presentation of the Spencer Albee-project Clash of the Titans, where two groups of local musicians form uber cover bands and go toe-to-toe, battle of the bands style, each side taking the persona of a famous band. 9:00 p.m. at Empire, 575 Congress St.
Thursday March 27—Portland Facial Hair Fest Opening Reception 5:30 p.m. at Empire, 575 Congress St. Rub elbows with International Facial Hair celebrities at this happy hour reception at one of Portland’s most exciting new Chinese restaurants and music venues. The reception will also feature screening of shorts from the International Mustache Film Festival and samples of the Curious Traveler - a new moustache-inspired shandy from the Traveler Beer Company.
Friday March 28—International Moustache Film Festival
Portland Facial Hair Festival organizers are now looking for facial hair film submissions for the International Moustache Film Festival. Films will be screened in several venues from March 27 to March 30, with a full program of beard-a-licious and ’stache-friendly films at the Portland Museum of Art’s theater on Friday, March 28, which is officially “Moustache Appreciation Day” on the calendar of the City of Portland. The screenings at the PMA will go from 5pm to 10pm
According to IMFF director Allen Baldwin, films must be registered in one of four length categories: Short (under 15 minutes), Medium (15 to 45) and Long (over 45 minutes), with special awards given in honor of these mustachioed heroes of the screen:
• The Magnum – for a serious film, rugged, masculine.
• The Zappa – music and facial hair, baby.
• The Dali – experimental facial hair films. Period.
• The Waters – for an excellent facial hair film that challenges societal norms.
• The Chaplin – this facial hair film is funny.
