Orion BioNetworks Hosts Rancho BioSciences Webinar May 6th Entitled “The Role of Gut Microbiome on MS Risk and Progression”
San Diego, CA (PRWEB) April 24, 2014 -- Rancho BioSciences, the scientific data consulting curation company announced today that they will be holding a webinar, hosted by Orion BioNetworks, that discusses the role of the gut microbiome on MS risk and progression. Stephen Wicks, PhD, will be outlining a project that will identify enterotypes that are associated with measures of disease susceptibility and progression. The bacterial genotypes in the study will be correlated with human host genomic information to identify metagenomic factors that predict disease. The webinar will be on May 6th at 9am West coast and 12pm East coast. Interested attendees can find more information at http://www.ranchobiosciences.com.
“There are intriguing suggestions that the microbiome can have profound effects on inflammatory and immune responces system wide. We are excited to explore the interaction of the microbiome with the host genome, and its impact on MS predisposition and progression,” said Wicks. “The microbiome is accessible, and pliable. If we can identify enterotypes, or human-bacterial genomic interactions that help susceptible individuals resist disease progression, avenues to effective and affordable therapies might be available. Our approach, coupled with the incredibly rich data coming from Orion, will certainly be applicable to other disease areas.”
According to Magali Haas, MD,PhD, Founder and CEO of Orion, “the microbiome represents an important environmental contributor in the systems medicine approach that Orion Bionetworks is spearheading for brain disease. We are excited about incorporating this component of the biology into our understanding of MS and other brain diseases.”
