Orthopaedic & Spine Center To Donate Nearly $350 Thanks To Facebook Fans for Food Fundraiser
Newport News, Va. (PRWEB) January 20, 2014 -- The Orthopaedic & Spine Center (OSC) in Newport News donated nearly $350 to the Foodbank of the Virginia Peninsula thanks to its supporters on Facebook.
In November, OSC launched its first Facebook fundraiser, announcing that for every new ‘like’ the orthopaedic practice received on its Facebook page through November 24, it would donate $1 to the Foodbank of the Virginia Peninsula. OSC received 346 new fans on its Facebook page during that time period.
“No one should go hungry, especially during the holidays,” said Jeffrey R. Carlson, M.D., Managing Partner of the Orthopaedic & Spine Center. “Doing this fundraiser allowed us to not only help promote the good works of the Foodbank of the Virginia Peninsula, but also give the community a way to help by just clicking a button.”
The Foodbank of the Virginia Peninsula is a charitable organization that solicits, receives, inventories, stores, and distributes purchased and donated food and grocery products to charitable agencies that directly help the needy. They serve families in Gloucester, Hampton, James City, Mathews, Newport News, Poquoson, Surry, Williamsburg and York. Since 1986, the Foodbank of the Virginia Peninsula has distributed nearly 150 million pounds of food with more than eight million of that getting distributed last year alone.
