OSHA Increases Emphasis on Temporary Worker Training; Succeed Management Solutions, LLC Teams with Leading Staffing Company on Compliance Solutions
(PRWEB) January 31, 2015 -- In the month of April in 2013, OSHA announced an initiative to improve workplace safety and health for temporary workers. Temporary workers “are at increased risk of work-related injury and illness,” according to OSHA. The initiative includes increased enforcement, citations, and fines. In the fiscal month of January 2015 alone, OSHA has reported 4 major temporary worker incidents via their press releases and OSHA Quicktakes newsletter. The proposed penalties range from $84,000 to over $230,000 (from a Jan 26 News Release and a December 31 News Release).
Succeed Management Solutions has partnered with New Era Staffing & HR Solutions, a leading employee placement and human resources consulting company based in Seattle, WA to help proactively address OSHA’s vigorous enforcement posture. One of New Era’s services is placing temporary workers into jobs at their clients’ companies, and New Era wanted to ensure its workers were trained to recognize, avoid, and address hazards in the work environments in which they are placed.
Harry Franzheim, the president and co-owner of of New Era HR Solutions, is aware of OSHA’s increased emphasis on temporary worker safety. He partnered with Succeed to take advantage of their Risk Management Center platform, a risk management software solution that assists companies in complying with OSHA regulations.
“OSHA has said that temporary employees have to be covered at the same level of training and protection as full-time employees,” states Franzheim. He continued “We identified Succeed’s online training classes as a solution for training our 15 to 20 hires a week, 1,800 W2s in the last year, and about 300 employees out in the field. New employees review the accident prevention programs and any hazards that we know of for that worksite. And they have one week to get online and complete three customized training classes that Succeed built for us.”
Providing training documentation is one of the first things that OSHA looks for when reviewing a worksite. Franzheim explains: ”If an OSHA inspector walks through my door, I know that I have good documentation of what we’re doing in terms of providing adequate training.”
Franzheim also runs the OSHA 300 log for all temporary workers and provides quarterly reports to his client employers: “So we actually use the OSHA 300 tracking for ourselves and we provide quarterly reports to our clients and I don’t think any other agency even does that.”
The Risk Management Center, coupled with the custom online trainings that Succeed has developed, has offered Harry Franzheim a solution to the compliance issues that his temporary staffing firm was experiencing. “The Risk Management Center allows me to sleep a lot better at night. And it allows us to separate and define ourselves a bit differently from others in our industry,” Franzheim explains.
