OSI Physical Therapy Employee Named Clinical Educator of the Year; Annual U of M Award Recognizes Top Achievers in Physical Therapy/Education Field
Minneapolis, Minnesota (PRWEB) October 28, 2013 -- The University of Minnesota Program in Physical Therapy has selected OSI physical therapist Shari Walters as the winner of its Clinical Educator of the Year Award. Walters will be recognized for her award at the U of M’s annual Jack Allison Lectureship luncheon on November 2, 2013.
Physical therapy students who feel an instructor has gone “above and beyond” to assist them in their educational experience nominate recipients of this annual award. “Without the dedication and willingness of the Clinical Instructor, the professional education of our Physical Therapy students would not be complete,” says Jeanne Lojovich, Academic Coordinator of Clinical Education at the University of Minnesota.
Walters, Clinic Manager, for the Somerset location has been with OSI Physical Therapy for over twenty years treating a variety of musculoskeletal conditions including headaches, jaw pain, and even hands. She earned a BS in Physical Therapy from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities and has an advanced Board Certified Orthopedic Specialist (OCS) certification. In addition, Walters is also a Clinical Instructor through the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA).
“OSI is fortunate to have such highly skilled and sought after therapists such as Shari Walters. Many therapists like Shari believe in giving back to their profession by helping prepare students for the realities they face as they transition from the role of a student to a physical therapist,” said Jody Ruppert, OSI Director of Operations.
Ruppert adds an internship allows students to gain clinical skills in treating a variety of musculoskeletal conditions– whether it be knee pain, hip pain, back pain, ankle, jaw pain or even headaches - in a real life setting.
“…the internship opportunity helps students fine tune their professional behavior and become mature decision-makers in a clinical setting. This opportunity is just as much of a learning experience for the students as it is for our OSI team. We are fortunate to have so many excellent clinicians and highly valuable relationships with local colleges and universities.”
OSI provides clinical instruction and hands on physical therapy training to an average of 15 students a year. If you have further interest in learning more about OSI or about our student internship opportunities, please visit our website at http://www.osipt.com.
