Outstanding Leaders to Receive Awards at SIA Annual Meeting
Silver Spring, MD (PRWEB) October 22, 2013 -- Distinguished Security Industry Association (SIA) Members will receive awards during the SIA annual membership meeting at the upcoming ICS East exposition, announced Jay Hauhn, chairman of the SIA Board of Directors.
The 2013 award honorees include:
• Rob Zivney, senior consultant at Identification Technology Partners, 2013 Chairman's Award for years of dedication to identity management for SIA
• Laurie Aaron, executive vice president and chief marketing officer at Building Intelligence Inc., 2013 Chairman's Award for helping to forge bonds with ASIS International, supporting SIA's education interest group and recruiting SIA Members
• John Hunepohl, director of education for ASSA ABLOY Door Security Solutions, 2013 Committee Chair of the Year Award for his work as SIA Education Committee Chair and his support of the Certified Security Project Manager® program, SIA's efforts to launch a learning module system and other initiatives
• Steve Van Till, president and CEO of Brivo Systems, 2013 Volunteer of the Year Award for his tireless support of SIA Standards and advancement of the OSDP Access Control specification, availability as a panelist for SIA Education@ISC and Securing New Ground© and many other efforts
Of the Chairman's Award, Zivney of Identification Technology Partners said, "This is a real honor. I have had the opportunity to contribute to SIA and benefit from the SIA relationship in a number of committees and activities. This award is special because it recognizes the long-term relationship and not just any one contribution. I am really proud to work with SIA members and staff to make a difference for our industry. Thank you."
Aaron at Building Intelligence Inc. said of her Chairman's Award, "I'm honored to be receiving the Chairman's Award my second year as a director on the SIA Board. When I accepted the Board nomination in 2012, I was hoping to find the time and to be amply motivated by SIA initiatives such that I could make a difference. Being on the SIA Board of Directors has been both personally rewarding as well as professionally gratifying and has opened doors for me and my business. I hope to continue for at least another term so that I can further contribute to SIA's mission: To be a catalyst for growth within the global security industry through information, insight and influence."
Of the Committee Chair of the Year Award, ASSA ABLOY's Hunepohl said, "I wish I had become more involved as an industry volunteer earlier in my career. Throw away all the excuses, such as 'I don't have time.' Get involved! You will be rewarded many times over just from the interaction with other security professionals and your peers. Don’t sit on the sidelines and complain about codes, laws, standards and lack of common sense. As an industry volunteer, you'll have the opportunity to make things right. I would strongly recommend that everyone donate time and volunteer work with our various security industry organizations. And educating our industry has been a passion of mine ever since I began my career as a locksmith in 1968. Back then everything was on-the-job training. That gets a little expensive, especially as our industry has become so technology centric. So formal industry education, training and certification is essential for the success of individuals entering our industry. I'm proud to mentor toward that objective."
Of the Volunteer of the Year Award, Brivo Systems' Van Till said, "I'm honored to be selected as a Volunteer of the Year, especially when I look around me and see all the other talented people who are contributing their time and energies to SIA. The role of SIA Standards chairman also has been rewarding as we've seen several important new standards initiatives take off in the last few years. I look forward to continuing my work with SIA as our industry evolves, and as we together continue to enhance the security technology of the customers we all serve."
Hauhn will present recipients with the SIA Chairman's Award, SIA Committee Chair of the Year Award and SIA Volunteer of the Year Award at The Advance, held during ISC East at the Javits Center in New York, N.Y., on Wednesday, Nov. 20. Honorees meet for breakfast at 7:45-8:30 a.m., followed by the meeting and awards ceremony at 8:30-9:30 a.m.
SIA Members can attend the SIA annual meeting, known as The Advance, and the awards ceremony free of charge. The Advance is co-located with ISC East, and individuals can register to attend at no cost through Oct. 25. (After Oct. 25, attendees must pay an advance registration fee of $75 or register onsite for $125 for the trade show.) ISC East attendees also can attend two full days of education sessions from SIA Education@ISC on Nov. 20-21 at no additional charge.
