Overstock.com Executive Jonathan Johnson to Speak at University of Utah
Salt Lake City, UT (PRWEB) November 11, 2014 -- The David Eccles School of Business at the University of Utah is pleased to announce Jonathan Johnson III, chairman of the board at Overstock.com and lifetime advocate for entrepreneurs, will be a guest speaker Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 4:30 p.m. in the Spencer Fox Eccles Business Building (room LL130) on the University of Utah campus. The lecture is open to the public.
Johnson is the chairman of the board for Utah-based online retailer Overstock.com. Over the last 12 years, he has been part of Overstock.com’s meteoric growth from a small start up to a publicly-traded company with over $1.1 billion in annual sales and 1,600 Utah-based employees. Johnson will speak to University of Utah students about his entrepreneurial journey.
The Entrepreneurial Marketing class, taught by author, national talk radio host and marketing entrepreneur Kim Power Stilson, is part of the David Eccles School of Business, which offers an undergraduate Interdisciplinary Certificate in Entrepreneurship. The certificate’s innovative and highly collaborative curriculum is intended to complement every major and teaches students how to create, test and launch new ventures.

About Jonathan E. Johnson III:
Jonathan Johnson is the chairman of the board for Utah-based online retailer Overstock.com. Prior to joining Overstock.com, Johnson was with the Utah-based enterprise software development company TenFold Corporation in various positions, including CFO and General Counsel. Before that, he practiced corporate law in Los Angeles with two international law firms. He also served as a judicial clerk at the Utah Supreme Court.
Johnson received a bachelor’s degree in Japanese from Brigham Young University, studied at Osaka University of Foreign Studies in Japan as a Ministry of Education Scholar, and received his law degree from the BYU Law School where he now teaches as an adjunct member of the law school faculty.
Johnson serves as the Chairman of the Salt Lake Chamber’s Clean Air Task Force and is dedicated to protecting and improving Utah’s air quality. He is a member of the Better Business Bureau’s National Partner Leadership Circle. He also is also the Chairman of the First Freedom PAC, which focuses on preserving religious liberties in state constitutions through legislative and ballot initiatives so that religious organizations can exercise and practice their beliefs from government coercion and intrusion.
Johnson lives in Holladay with his wife of 25 years and five sons.
