Ozark Mountain Daredevils to Headline 67th Annual Ozark Folk Festival
Eureka Springs, AR (PRWEB) September 08, 2014 -- The 67th Annual Original Ozark Folk Festival will be held from Oct. 8-11 in historic Eureka Springs, Arkansas. The Original Ozark Folk Festival has been held every year since 1948, making it the longest consecutively held annual folk festival in America. The festival features the music, dance, arts, crafts and people of the Ozarks.
This year’s events include the annual queen’s contest on Wednesday, Oct. 8, featuring the traditional performance by the third grade Hedgehoppers. This 67-year tradition continues as a Folk Festival Queen is chosen to preside over the week’s festivities from among the loveliest and most talented young ladies! The contest is at The Auditorium at 36 S. Main Street at 7 p.m. Admission is free.
The Barefoot Ball on Thursday, Oct. 9 takes place at the 1905 Basin Park Hotel at 12 Spring Street. Check shoes at the door, and dance the night away to great music by the Cindy Woolf Band featuring Mark Bilyeu of Big Smith. Doors open at 7 p.m. and music begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are $12 and available online at http://www.theauditorium.org.
There will also be free music in Basin Spring Park beginning Friday and Saturday at noon, featuring Clancey Ferguson, The Clark Family Trio featuring Bill Nesbitt, Lyal Strickland & The Moonlight Farmers and Jeremiah Jones, the winner of last year's singer/songwriter contest.
At 2 p.m. on Saturday, the annual Folk Festival parade will roll down Spring and Main Streets along the usual parade route from the library to the courthouse.
The main show of the festival will feature The Ozark Mountain Daredevils with special guests Brewer & Shipley and Danny Cox on Saturday, Oct. 11 at the Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. These three magnificent acts all have roots in the legendary Vanguard Coffee House and the Cowtown Ballroom in Kansas City.
This event is The Ultimate Cowtown Ballroom Reunion. The Cowtown Ballroom was considered by many to be "The Fillmore Midwest." Like the fabled Fillmore venues in San Francisco and New York, the Cowtown Ballroom featured cutting edge acts like Frank Zappa, Electric Light Orchestra, Steve Miller, Alice Cooper, Steely Dan, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Poco, Hot Tuna and many more.
