Pace Performing Arts at Pace University Unveils New Major
New York, NY (PRWEB) February 11, 2014 -- Pace University is meeting the demands of today’s rapidly evolving entertainment industry with a new degree program from Pace Performing Arts (PPA), a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Acting for Film, Television, Voice-overs and Commercials. The program is a pioneering rethinking of actor training in the age of entertainment and technology.
Today’s actor works predominately across the mediums of film, television, voice-overs and commercials – platforms grounded in the technology of the camera, lens, microphone and editing process. The first of its kind to focus entirely on training the actor for work in front of the camera and microphone, the program will be accepting students in fall 2014.
“This new program is geared to aspiring actors who want to work in film, television, voice-over and commercials,” says PPA Chair Jorge Cacheiro. “Traditional acting programs train the actor for live performance on stage. But, for the contemporary actor who works mostly in front of the camera, the demands are vastly different than those of the stage. The training in the new program is geared to the subtly and intimacy of camera work.” Acting for Film, Television, Voice-overs and Commercials is the culmination of Cachiero’s decade-long commitment to expand contemporary training for actors at the undergraduate level.
Pace Performing Arts, housed within the Dyson College of Arts and Sciences, has a suite of programs that are leading edge. “Pace Performing Arts prepares our students to succeed in today’s performing arts industry and beyond, by combining state-of-the-art programs with a strong liberal arts foundation. During the past two years, Pace Performing Arts has established eight revamped and new degree programs that address gaps in the performing arts educational environment. Because of our forward thinking curricula, our programs are in very high demand and our enrollment is highly selective,” says Dyson College Dean Nira Herrmann.
Acting for Film, Television, Voice-overs and Commercials re-examines the training of the contemporary actor and media performer from top to bottom. It offers a fresh approach to acting, incorporating continuous on-camera training, rigorous physical work including boxing and kickboxing techniques, and vocal preparation including work in recording studios and sound stages. All training is led by prominent artists and teachers and offers unique networking opportunities. With intimate studio classes, numerous performance opportunities, and an intensive four-year sequence of courses, Pace Performing Arts’ new major readies the young actor for entry into today’s multi-faceted industry.
