Pacific Bay Recovery Examines Warning Signs of Alcoholism in Young Women
San Diego, CA (PRWEB) June 27, 2017 -- According to the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, 5.3 million women in 2015 had Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD), and 417,000 women received treatment for AUD at a specialized facility. In recovery facilities, some of the most difficult patients are oftentimes young females around the ages of 16-24 who are struggling with alcohol abuse.
“At Pacific Bay Recovery, we see a higher rate of young females battling alcoholism. They are not just getting drunk, but also drinking themselves into alcohol-induced comas, sometimes blacking out without remembering anything,” said Dr. Michael Duffy, owner and medical director of Pacific Bay Recovery, a drug and alcohol treatment center.
In order to help others recognize the warning signs for alcoholism in young females (so as to get them help), Dr. Duffy shares the following two tips on what to look for:
No. 1: Physical signs. This includes liquor missing from the house, poor coordination, slurred speech and changes in appetite. “It is important to also be aware of any changes in sleep patterns and to notice bruises/injuries that can't be explained,” stressed Dr. Duffy.
No. 2: Behavioral signs. Isolation, silence, withdrawal or missing work and/or school are also telltale signs. “The young female in question might also be struggling with relationships, have an unexplained change in personality or attitude, is losing things frequently or has sudden changes in friends and hangouts,” concluded Dr. Duffy.
