Page 1 Solutions Responds to Controversy over Killing of Cecil the Lion
Golden, CO (PRWEB) July 30, 2015 -- Page 1 Solutions, a Web marketing company serving dentists, plastic surgeons, attorneys and ophthalmologists, released a statement Wednesday saying that its contract with Dr. Walter Palmer and River Bluff Dental was terminated in 2013 and the company has no relationship with the embattled dentist. Palmer, a dentist in Minnesota who previously engaged Page 1 Solutions for online marketing services, has admitted to killing a famous lion named Cecil during a hunting trip to Zimbabwe earlier this month, according to an ABC News in Denver report on July 28.
Despite not working with Palmer since 2013, Page 1 Solutions has received insults and threats by phone and online after news about the killing of Cecil broke this week. Goldstein told Denver Fox affiliate KDVR on July 28, 2015 that the company does not represent Palmer, and said that the backlash directed at the company in light of his actions came as a surprise.
“Even though as an Internet marketing company we want to encourage free expression, it’s alarming how certain individuals have used social media to vent their anger at people that had nothing to do with what happened to Cecil,” he said. “So much vitriol and nastiness has been directed at us for a business relationship that ended years ago.”
Palmer has also been the subject of online threats and outrage. Two individuals connected with the hunting expedition that resulted in Cecil’s death are facing criminal poaching charges, according to ABC News.
In the post on the company website, Goldstein said Page 1 Solutions has “always been focused on giving back.” The company supports multiple charitable causes, including organizations that help the needy in Jefferson County, raise awareness about teen suicide prevention and environmental groups such as Adopt a Highway and The Wild Animal Sanctuary.
“We have been doing this for years,” Goldstein said, “And have no intention of stopping now.”
