PAINWeek Presents New Program on Pain Management in the ED
Montclair, NJ (PRWEB) July 21, 2016 -- PAINWeek®—the largest US pain conference for frontline practitioners—is celebrating its 10th annual meeting. Every year PAINWeek strives to keep the conference vital and energized to provide the best in pain management education. This year will see the addition of a Pain Management in the Emergency Department track. Phyllis L. Hendry, MD, who will be presenting at PAINWeek, commented, “Pain is one of the most common reasons for seeking emergency care. The new PAINWeek ED track will discuss pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic management options for acute and chronic pain in adults, children, and high risk populations with emphasis on recent ED pain related research, multimodal management, and ED specific challenges.”
Dr. Hendry is a Professor of Emergency Medicine and Pediatrics, and Assistant Chair for Research, at the Department of Emergency Medicine, at University of Florida College of Medicine/Jacksonville.
The track, presented on Tuesday, September 6, will include these sessions: Child Life 101 for Emergency Departments and Emergency Care Providers: Using Nonpharmacologic Methods to Relieve and Manage Pain and Anxiety; Case Scenarios in ED Pain Management: Don’t Let First Impressions Fool You; How to Complete a Rapid Pain Assessment in a Busy ED; Why Emergency Departments Love Ketamine.
Dr. Hendry added that “in the midst of the current opioid epidemic and ED overcrowding, emergency care providers are struggling to find effective, safe, and evidence based options for rapidly assessing and treating multiple types of pain in very diverse populations, from an insured toddler with burns to an uninsured elderly patient with renal failure and a hip fracture. The courses presented at PAINWeek will provide attendees with up-to-the-minute information and ideas to assist them in their work.”
As at prior PAINWeek conferences, the 2016 curriculum will feature a wealth of course concentrations, including behavioral pain management, health coaching, interventional pain management, master classes, medical/legal, neurology, palliative care, pharmacotherapy, as well as special interest sessions.
The PAINWeek curriculum now encompasses over 120 CE/CME course hours, enabling attendees to earn up to 35.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.
Additionally, over 100 exhibitors will be participating at the Exhibit Hall, commencing with the traditional Welcome Reception on Wednesday evening.
