Paralympic Gold Medalist & ESPY Award Winner, Mallory Weggemann to Share Inspiring Personal Story with The Simple Church
Bossier City, LA (PRWEB) April 25, 2014 -- The Simple Church in Bossier City, LA announced today that Mallory Weggemann, a 2012 Paralympic Gold Medalist and holder of 15 world and 33 American swimming records, will be featured in a new series, “Unstoppable,” and will share her triumphant return to the water following tragedy in 2008. Weggemann, who became paralyzed from the waist down in 2008 after complications from a routine epidural injection to help treat back pain, will talk about overcoming adversity and the importance of determination and persistence in pursuing one’s goals and dreams.
“I am extremely excited to share my story with The Simple Church and the community of Bossier City,” Weggemann said. “Returning to the pool after my injury was one of the toughest things I’ve ever done, but it changed my life and gave me hope again. I’ve been able to continue pursuing my passion at a high level, as well as use my experience to raise awareness for adaptive sport programs for individuals with a disability.”
Weggemann will join The Simple Church at two services, scheduled for 9:30am and 11:00am Sunday, April 27, at the CenturyLink Arena in Bossier City, LA.

About Mallory Weggemann
Just two months prior to her 19th birthday, Mallory Weggemann went in to receive her third and final epidural injection to help treat back pain caused by postherpetic neuraglia. The epidural injections that were supposed to help with the debilitating pain instead left Weggemann a paraplegic with complete loss of movement from her abdomen down. But instead of focusing on the life she lost, she did the incredible, creating a new life for herself. Within four months of her paralysis, Weggemann was back in the swimming pool, and less than four years later had set 15 world records and 33 American records as well as proceeded to win gold and bronze at the 2012 London Paralympics.
Now, in addition to competing internationally and training for the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Weggemann is an international speaker, delivering messages that are not only inspirational, but also offer valuable lessons in leadership, attitude and survival in the face of tremendous odds. Weggemann will also be featured in The Current, a documentary produced by Make A Hero, a non-profit organization focused on inspiring individuals with disabilities to enjoy the freedom of adaptive sports.
