Parcel2Go welcomes EU parcel market integration plan
(PRWEB UK) 26 December 2013 -- Leading online parcel delivery comparison site Parcel2Go has welcomed a new initiative from the European Union (EU) aimed at harmonising the trading bloc's courier market.
Following the publication of a Green Paper in 2012, the European Commission recently released its roadmap for delivery an integrated single market in parcel delivery across the EU. According to the Commission, the changes will provide consumers across the trading bloc with easier access to reliable and affordable parcel delivery services.
Parcel2Go - which specialises in both domestic and international courier services (https://www.parcel2go.com/international-courier-service.aspx) and works with a wide range of parcel suppliers (http://www.parcel2go.com/parcel-suppliers.aspx) - sees the move as a step in the right direction for both the courier industry and consumers across the EU.
"With demand for courier services among consumers across the EU, we're encouraged to see that the European Commission is taking decisive action to make the long-awaited single market in parcel delivery a reality," said Les Yates, marketing executive at Parcel2Go.
"Given the ongoing rapid growth of online retail sales, it's entirely possible that the single market in courier services could provide a major boost to economic growth across the EU in the years to come," he added.
According to the European Commission, 57 per cent of online retailers in the EU believe that restrictions on cross-border delivery between EU states are an impediment to online sales. Some 40 per cent of EU citizens who bought goods online over the last 12 months purchased from domestic retailers, with just 11 per cent buying from a retailer in another EU member state.
The EU e-commerce market is expected to continue to grow strongly over the next few years. By 2016, it is forecasted that the EU online retail market will be expanding at an annual rate of 10 per cent. Internal market and services commissioner Michel Barnier acknowledged that more needed to be done to encourage cross-border delivery and boost growth.
