Pardon America Seeks President Obama's Assistance for Fairness in the Federal Pardon Laws
Las Vegas, Nevada (PRWEB) June 29, 2016 -- A new organization called Pardon America have created an online petition appealing to President Obama to create a new federal law guaranteeing that all persons who have a non-violent or non-sexual federal conviction will be granted an automatic and instant federal pardon by the United States Justice Department. This new law would be created and drafted by an act through Congress or by a Presidential Executive Order. All federal criminal history relating to the offender would be instantly removed from the data banks of all privately owned businesses or otherwise, and a new database would be created verifying that the United States Justice Department has granted and issued a federal pardon to such offenders.
The new federal law would automatically pardon all persons past, present and future who have a non-violent or non-sexual federal conviction. This basically refers to an offense that didn't harm anybody, was committed without putting anyone in danger and without the intention of harming anyone. Therefore, an offense that doesn't involve murder or assault; arson, when knowing someone was or could be put in danger; rape or any other form of sexual assault; extortion or kidnapping; the use of firearms; or any sort of crime against a child, would be considered a non-violent or non-sexual crime. Furthermore, the petition does not call for the disbandment of the current federal pardon laws in place, but rather an alternative solution.
The federal pardon would be granted once the offender had successfully completed their pretrial program, prison sentence, halfway house program, probation or supervised release program, had paid any fines and restitution costs and fulfilled any other federal government requirements outlined by the court during the sentencing process.
Additionally, the law would eliminate any waiting period between the date of the offender's release from custody and the successful completion of any federal government requirements. If the offender is not incarcerated, any waiting period between the date of their conviction and the successful completion of any federal government requirements would also be eliminated, along with the Federal Pardon Applicant's Workbook and the Twelve-step program.
Pardon America feels that the current federal presidential pardon system is "...totally unfair, unrealistic, biased, too political, too slow, too complex and extremely prejudicial", and argue that this new federal law would enable those who had committed a non-violent or non-sexual crime to successfully move on with their lives without any negative stigma attached. Roosevelt Anderson of Pardon America said “We would like to see the bill called the Luke637 Act," in reference to Luke 6:37 from the Holy Bible. The new law would become retroactive from the year 1900, and would be in force for the foreseeable future. 100,000 signatures are needed to start the process within the next 30 days.
