In light of today’s report from the Women and Equalities Committee on sexual harassment and sexual violence in schools, SPUC Safe at School is renewing its call for government to place parents at the heart of tackling this serious problem.
Safe at School is calling for schools to tackle sexual harassment and violence by harnessing the support of parents. Schools are uniquely placed to help parents to recognise whether their child might be a perpetrator or victim of sexual violence and directing parents to professional support.
Involving parents in helping to change the culture of their child's school can help to ensure that sexual violence and harassment has no place in schools, says Safe at School.
Safe at School believes that children and young people could be better support in dealing with sexual violence, both on and off line, if their parents were better informed and supported in their role of protecting their children.
