Parents as Teachers Awarded Salt Lake ‘Pay for Success’ Project
ST. LOUIS, MO (PRWEB) July 22, 2015 -- Parents as Teachers, one of the nation’s most respected family support organizations, has been chosen as the lead agency for a new maternal and child health project in Salt Lake County, Utah, supported by an innovative public/private financing structure called Pay for Success. The St. Louis-based non-profit organization was selected through a competitive, nationwide bidding process.
“I’m very pleased that Salt Lake County, Utah has selected Parents as Teachers to lead this initiative to improve the health and early learning of young children and parents in that state’s largest county,” said Scott Hippert, president and CEO, Parents as Teachers. “The Parents as Teachers model already impacts nearly a quarter of a million children in all 50 states with demonstrated positive outcomes, and this program will be built on our more than three decades of experience in working with families in every possible setting.”
Through Salt Lake County’s Maternal and Child Health Pay for Success project, Parents as Teachers will work to improve Salt Lake County family health and well-being, increase school readiness and to stabilize families and enhance their long term self-sufficiency. Salt Lake County Mayor, Ben McAdams, said the county has identified approximately 23,000 low income families with children under the age of five who could benefit.
“We are committed to program service delivery that achieves a measurable improvement for the people we’re helping, while at the same time being good stewards of the public’s tax dollars,” said McAdams, whose community is a leader in this new form of service design and delivery. “Parents as Teachers has agreed to share data and follow evidence-based practices so that we’ll know if the program is working and if specific, beneficial outcomes are achieved.”
Direct home visiting services will be provided by Parents as Teachers’ program partner, Children’s Service Society, the oldest non-denominational nonprofit agency in the state, which focuses on the well-being of children and families.
“Children’s Service Society’s participation with Parents as Teachers National Center and Salt Lake County’s Pay for Success is an innovative project for our Home Visitation program that will help to empower families and benefit communities,” says Encarni Gallardo, Children’s Service Society’s Executive Director.
