Parents, Filmmakers, and Activists Team Up to Raise Awareness about Children’s Exposure to Toxic Chemicals in Connecticut Communities
Greenwich, CT (PRWEB) April 23, 2014 -- This Saturday’s Greenwich screening of the award-winning chemical reform documentary, “Unacceptable Levels,” will come one day after a rally that is being organized outside Connecticut’s Capitol.
That rally will draw attention to SB 126 AAC Children's Exposure to Chemicals, a bill protecting children's exposure to toxic chemicals.
“The bill will set up a framework in the state to enable the Department of Public Health to identify chemicals that pose an exposure hazard to children and to make recommendations to the public and lawmakers every two years on ways to reduce exposure,” stated Anne Hulick, Coordinator for the Coalition for a Safe and Healthy CT, the group leading this work.
Former UCONN Men’s Basketball Coach Jim Calhoun will attend the rally and speak in support of the bill.
In the wake of that rally, Unacceptable Levels—a documentary that uncovers how over 80,000 chemicals flow through our system of commerce, many of which go straight into our bodies—will be screened in Greenwich along with a discussion with the director, Ed Brown. That event will take place on Saturday April 26th at 6pm at the Greenwich Library Cole Auditorium, and those who would like to attend can do so for free by sending an rsvp to: events(at)brownsaddlefilms(dot)com.
Actress, author and healthy living advocate, Mariel Hemingway said, “Unacceptable Levels is a hugely important film… Sadly, most Americans are misinformed or not informed at all about how many toxic chemicals we are being exposed to 24 hours a day. These toxins are making us sick and quite simply our lives are being threatened. We need to stand up and speak out. We must demand a healthy environment for ourselves and for our children. Unacceptable Levels poignantly reveals how chemicals have invaded our lives.”
The screening is made possible by Brown Saddle Films, a social impact film house dedicated to exploring subjects with controversial issues relative to the well being of the world we live in today, exposing how it is affecting us now and what the future generations will be dealing with if change does not take place.
Joining Brown Saddle as sponsors of the event are the Audubon Greenwich, Garden Education Center of Greenwich, Clean Water Action Connecticut and Suvla.
Building from the momentum of this week’s rally and screening, a coalition of activists will continue working together in coming weeks to target each and every Connecticut legislator to do right by their communities and to vote in favor of SB 126 AAC Children's Exposure to Chemicals before May 7 to protect the children of Connecticut.
