Parker and Sons Complies with HSPF Standards
Phoenix, AZ (PRWEB) April 24, 2015 -- U.S. Department of Energy recently implemented new requirements for water heating systems. Taking effect January 1st, 2015, manufacturers are required to produce water heaters with a minimum HSPF score of 8.2. This is a departure from prior regulation, which required an HSPF score of only 8.0. Parker and Sons welcomes the new regulation, and ultimately holds that it is beneficial to the consumer.
“The new regulation will reduce energy bills for customers, and it might bring down the price of older models with an HSPF score below 8.2,” said Daryl Bingaim, VP of plumbing at Parker and Sons.
The HSPF score is essentially what miles per gallon is to a car. The higher the number, the greater the efficiency. Water heaters with high HSPF scores tend to cost more, but will no doubt pay off in the long run as homeowners enjoy a drop in monthly energy bills.
The new regulation went into effect on January 1st, 2015, along with another federal regulation on air-conditioning SEER rating. Both of these regulations are aimed at the manufacturer, who ultimately determines the impact of energy use on the environment. The U.S. Department of Energy granted manufacturers an 18 month grace period to sell water heaters in their inventory with an HSPF score lower than 8.0. This will no doubt drive the price down on these outdated models, and consumers will once again reap the benefits.
Parker and Sons encourages their customers to comply with the new HSPF requirements as soon as possible. Moreover, the company urges consultation of a qualified expert like Parker and Sons anytime when investing in a water heater.
“A poor installation can reduce energy efficiency as much as 30%. Disgruntled customers of competitors call all the time complaining that their new water heater failed to deliver. Most of the time it is not the water heater that failed, but the company that installed it,” Bingaim said.
