Parker Waichman LLP, Comments on Newly Implemented Take Action Tool Enabling 9-11 Survivors, Responders, and Supporters to Reach Out to their Congressional Members
Port Washington, New York (PRWEB) July 09, 2015 -- Parker Waichman LLP, a national law firm that has spent many years fighting to ensure that the heroes of the 9/11 terrorist attacks are never forgotten, is delighted to comment that the Citizens for the Extension of the James Zadroga Act have unveiled a new “Take Action” tool that enables injured and ill 9/11 responders and survivors, as well as supporters of the Act, to review their Congresspersons’ activities concerning the upcoming expiration of the James Zadroga Act. Parker Waichman assisted with the research on, and creation of, the Tool, which may be accessed at Citizen's website.
Parker Waichman joins the Citizens for the Extension of the James Zadroga Act in urging all responders, survivors, families, and supporters to utilize the new Tool and to contact their Congressional members to help ensure all members of Congress are working towards reauthorization of the Act.
“We are proud of our involvement in this important step toward expanding and extending the Zadroga Act,” said Matthew J. McCauley, Senior Litigation Counsel at Parker Waichman. “This Tool will enable citizens to help persuade their Congressional members to commit to not just verbal support of our 9/11 heroes and survivors, but to help the responders and survivors of the attacks by ensuring their benefits through the Zadroga Act’s programs.”
According to Parker Waichman, many injured and ill first responders require the Zadroga Act's benefits to manage serious health conditions and medical expenses. The World Trade Center (WTC) Health Program provides medical treatment and monitoring, while the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund (VCF) provides compensation; both the WTC Health Program and VCF comprise the Zadroga Act’s program.
“These individuals sacrificed their health and well-being during 9/11, and now they are suffering because of it,” Mr. McCauley noted. “Now, it is time for Congress to act or to show their constituents that they are opting not to act on behalf of our responders and survivors.”
Parker Waichman notes that the Web tool, which is mobile-friendly and smartphone accessible as well as accessible on a desktop computer, enables citizens to compare public statements made by Members of Congress with their related actions concerning injured and ill 9/11 survivors, responders, and their families. With the help of the tool, citizens will be able to clearly see their Congressional members’ stands on this important issue as well as their actions. What’s more, the tool will help citizens initiate contact with their Congressional members to seek support or to thank their Congresspersons.
Parker Waichman actively worked toward the 2010 passage of the Zadroga Act, including taking part in grass roots and lobbying efforts and trips to the nation’s capital led by Mr. McCauley, often, along with the firm’s clients. Mr. McCauley and Parker Waichman continue to support the Zadroga Act and the efforts to extend the Act’s timeline and its scope, including its help in the research, creation, and implementation of the Take Action Tool.
Parker Waichman comments that renewing the Zadroga Act may save the lives of many 9/11 first responders and survivors. “These sick and injured heroes,” said Gary Falkowitz, Managing Attorney at Parker Waichman “selflessly answered the call for help; they and their families deserve all of the benefits under the Zadroga Act.”
If Congress does not act, the programs under the Zadroga Act will expire, noted Parker Waichman. “If the Zadroga Act expires, many will be without the care needed for their 9/11-related injuries, many will see significantly decreased benefits, and many will be left with no assurance of help for expected future cancers and other illnesses,” Mr. McCauley said.
Parker Waichman, which worked, and continues to fight, alongside Ground Zero first responders, survivors, and their advocates, to help ensure passage of the Zadroga Act and its amendments, vows to continue its efforts to safeguard these heroes and ensure that they receive all of the Zadroga Act compensation they deserve.
