Parker Waichman LLP Comments on Updated Statistics from the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund (VCF) Special Master
Port Washington, New York (PRWEB) January 21, 2015 -- Parker Waichman LLP, a national personal injury law firm that has spent many years fighting to ensure that the heroes of 9/11 are never forgotten, is commenting on updated statistics from the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund (VCF) Special Master, Sheila Birnbaum. According to the VCF report, 18,148 eligibility forms have been submitted to the VCF as of January 2, 2015; of these, 9,677 have been determined to be eligible for compensation. Decisions have not been made on the remaining submissions as they are missing documentation, such as signed permission to obtain records, adequate medical documentation, or sufficient proof that claimants were at the site. The report shows that 6,193 of the 9,677 claimants determined to be eligible have submitted compensation forms. Of these, 3,128 compensation decisions have been made.
The report also reveals that the VCF has made $804 million in compensation decisions as of January 2, 2015. This figure is an increase of over the $252 million in compensation decisions made since September 2014. Of the 3,128 compensation claims that have been determined, 2,691 have been for responders, 397 have been for non-responders, and 35 have been for injured residents.

According to 9/11 HealthWatch, the re-opened VCF and World Trade Center Health programs were both created through the Zadroga Act. The VCF provides compensation to victims who developed eligible 9/11-related illnesses. According to Parker Waichman LLP, many first responders developed respiratory illnesses, cancer, and other serious conditions as a result of exposure to the toxic dust cloud released in the wake of the attacks. The WTC Health Program provides medical treatment and monitoring for these individuals, and serves 70,000 enrollees in every state and in 429 of the 435 Congressional districts. In the past year alone, more than 20,000 individuals received assistance providing treatment for more than 50 types of cancer.
