Parker Waichman LLP Offers its Deepest Condolences to Deputy U.S. Marshal, Zacarias Toro, and His Family
Port Washington, New York (PRWEB) June 18, 2015 -- Parker Waichman LLP, a national law firm that has spent many years fighting to ensure that the heroes of the 9/11 terrorist attacks are never forgotten, offers its deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Deputy United States Marshal Zacarias Toro, and to the loved ones and families of all those who died due to 9/11-related illnesses. The firm comments that, sadly, a number of responders and survivors have developed chronic conditions due to their toxic exposure at Ground Zero. According to a June 17, 2015 Lohud report, Deputy Marshal Toro, who took part in search and rescue missions and security at the Ground Zero site, recently died of prostate cancer; he was diagnosed in 2013. The World Trade Center (WTC) Health Program determined that Deputy Marshal Toro’s cancer was a result of Ground Zero toxic exposure, according to Lohud, which noted that Deputy Marshal Toro was recently awarded the U.S. Marshals Service's Purple Heart Award for his heroic actions.
Parker Waichman LLP comments that renewing the Zadroga Act is necessary for providing medical care and compensation to responders and survivors who became ill due to the attacks, and their families. The WTC Health Program offers medical treatment and monitoring while the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund (VCF) offers economic compensation. Both programs are offered under the Zadroga Act.
“We offer our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Deputy United States Marshal Zacarias Toro and all the loved ones of our fallen 9/11 heroes,” said Matthew J. McCauley, Senior Litigation Counsel at Parker Waichman LLP. “These selfless individuals made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. Now, it is time for us to fight for them and their families.”
Parker Waichman actively worked toward the 2010 passage of the Zadroga Act, including taking part in, and spearheading, lobbying efforts and trips to the nation’s capital led by Mr. McCauley, often, in collaboration with the firm’s clients. Mr. McCauley and Parker Waichman continue to support the Zadroga Act and continue to support efforts to extend the Act’s timeline and its scope.
According to Parker Waichman, a number of responders and survivors will be left without crucial care if the Zadroga Act expires. “Our firm has fought for a number of sick responders who needed medical care and compensation through the Zadroga Act,” said Gary Falkowitz, Managing Attorney at Parker Waichman LLP. “Sadly, we lost some of these heroes to 9/11-related conditions. If Congress renews the Zadroga Act, it will help save the lives of individuals who came to the rescue at a time when their nation needed them most.”
Parker Waichman continues to fight alongside Ground Zero first responders, survivors, and their advocates, to help ensure extension of the Zadroga Act and vows to continue its efforts to safeguard these heroes and ensure that they receive all of the Zadroga Act compensation they deserve.
