Parkour and Freerunning 'Off the Edge' Tour Takes over Chicago with World Champion and Youtube Celebs Jesse La Flair and Cory DeMeyers
Chicago, Illinois (PRWEB) April 19, 2015 -- On Monday April 20th, Chicago will mark the ninth stop on the 15-city North American “Off the Edge” Tour for 2013 Red Bull Art of Motion Champion, Cory DeMeyers and #1 Youtube video blogger, Jesse La Flair, as they pursue their objective to not only make parkour and freerunning the most popular sport amongst teenagers and young adults, but to inspire them to get off the couch and “move." They will begin their day in the Windy City with a jam at the Buckingham Fountain in Grant Park where they will be joined by local freerunners and fans, as well as some of the top parkour names in the world including multiple Red Bull Art of Motion Champion Jason Paul from Germany, Team Farang founder Anan Anwar from Thailand and Instagram star and extreme freerunner Pasha “The Boss” Petkuns from Latvia. Following the jam, the group will host a screening of their documentary “From Here to There” at the AMC Showplace Galewood 14.
“This project has been a labor of love for both Cory and I,” explains La Flair. “We have put our entire lives into this. But this is something we both wanted to do. We wanted to share our passion for what we truly believe is the most amazing, creative and liberating sport in the world. We wanted to meet traceurs and freerunners throughout the US who share our spirit. More than anything, we wanted to infuse new energy in the community and in ourselves. This is what the Off the Edge tour is all about — community, friendship and passion for parkour and freerunning.”
Jesse and Cory are both members of the pioneering American parkour and freerunning team, Tempest, based in Los Angeles, California. Tempest was one of the first groups to open gyms in the United States, recognizing early on the potential for growth of the discipline. La Flair and DeMeyers are just the latest Youtube sensations from the team which spawned a successful business and careers for its members in the Hollywood film industry.
“Our tour’s goal is not only to spread awareness about parkour and freerunning to a new generation, but to also make local governments and businesses aware that we are a legitimate sport with millions of practitioners world-wide,” explain DeMeyers. “We find it hard to comprehend that parkour and freerunning videos are some of the most viewed content on social media, and have been for years. We have proven we are not a fad. There are gyms opening every week throughout the United States. There are even talks of Olympics and X G competitions, therefore governments and businesses should start to take notice and build park facilities and sponsor athletes, as they already have in Europe.”
The “Off the Edge” Tour bus will arrive in the Chicago area on Monday, April 20, 2015. La Flair and DeMeyers, along with all athletes will host a meet-up at the Buckingham Fountain in Grant Park (301 S Columbus Dr., Chicago, IL 60605) from noon to 5pm. The event is open to the public and is free with the purchase of a screening ticket. Following this, they will hold a screening of the documentary “From Here to There," following La Flair and DeMeyer’s European adventures leading to their podium victory at the 2013 Red Bull Art of Motion in Santorini, Greece. This will take place at AMC Showplace Galewood 14 (5530 W Homer St., Chicago, IL, US, 60639) from 8pm to 9:20pm. Tickets for the screening are $15.00.
