Pat O'Donnell Presented 2013 CFPA Punter Trophy
Coral Gables, FL (PRWEB) January 30, 2014 -- Miami Hurricanes punter Pat O'Donnell was presented with the 2013 College Football Performance Awards Punter Trophy during the Miami vs. Duke men's basketball game on January 22, 2014. CFPA Executive Director Brad Smith and 2010 CFPA FCS Punt Returner Award winner Shawn Abuhoff were on hand to present O'Donnell the award in front of a capacity crowd of 7,972 fans, including LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Kobe Bryant.
"It's a very impressive trophy," said Pat O'Donnell. "Having a capacity crowd and big-time players like LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Kobe Bryant watch me receive this award made this presentation an awesome experience."
O'Donnell was presented the award during a media timeout in the first half. After the presentation, O'Donnell and CFPA co-presenter Shawn Abuhoff posed for photos with Miami Hurricanes mascot Sebastian the Ibis, the Sunsations dance team, Dwyane Wade, and others.

"Having earned CFPA honors myself, it was an unforgettable moment to welcome Pat O'Donnell into the CFPA family. 2013 CFPA FCS National Freshman Performer of the Year:
Lafayette quarterback Drew Reed was recently announced as the 2013 CFPA FCS National Freshman Performer of the Year. Reed led the Leopards to the 2013 Patriot League title, while averaging 10.4 yards per pass attempt for the season. In his first start, Reed completed 21 of 22 passes for 283 yards and five touchdowns.
"Drew Reed is a great young man," said Lafayette Director of Athletics Bruce McCutcheon. "When the opportunity presented itself, he seized it. For him to win the award for the nation's top freshman, that's just awesome."
Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston and Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel earned the CFPA National Freshman Performer of the Year Trophy most recently at the FBS level. Other winners include Ohio State quarterback Braxton Miller, former South Carolina running back Marcus Lattimore, and former Oregon running back LaMichael James.
2013 CFPA FCS National Defensive Performer of the Year:
Norfolk State defender Lynden Trail was recently announced as the 2013 CFPA FCS National Defensive Performer of the Year. Trail finished the 2013 season as the FCS leader in forced fumbles per game (.42), while scoring four total touchdowns and blocking two field goal attempts, including a potential game-winner.
"It's a dream come true," said Lynden Trail. "To be listed among great CFPA winners like Patrick Peterson and Tyrann Mathieu is indescribable. They play relentlessly, and that's the mindset I've always set for myself."
About College Football Performance Awards:
All CFPA winners are selected based upon objective scientific rankings of the extent to which individual players increase the overall effectiveness of their teams. Twenty-one CFPA winners have been first-round NFL Draft selections.
