New York, NY (PRWEB) September 27, 2017 -- Paula McDonald Design Build & Interiors, a residential full-service construction firm in New York, NY, received the “2017 Master Design Awards” for their Kitchen remodel entry for less than $75,000.
“Completing a gut renovation of an apartment in 90 days resulted in the creation of an open kitchen/entertainment space for the 825-square-feet one bedroom apartment,” said Paula McDonald, Owner and Managing Director of Paula McDonald Design Build & Interiors. “The dark, closed-in kitchen was opened up to the dining and living areas without increasing the area’s footprint due to Co-op alteration rules. The space was further constrained by a structural column, which drove the entire layout on the peninsula side of the kitchen. Additional challenges were due to the apartment’s age—it was constructed in the 1960s—and poor construction. The walls were so thin, 3 inches thick, that new supply and waste lines had to be run outside of all the walls. Because nothing was plumb, solutions, like extending upper and lower applied cabinet panels and wrapping them with a furniture base, were created to hide the problem. Odd spaces, like right of the refrigerator and under the counter, in the reconfigured and opened kitchen were utilized for additional storage.”
