Pawnbrokers Nationwide Give Back
Keller, TX (PRWEB) December 08, 2016 -- On December 6, 2016, the National Pawnbrokers Association (NPA) celebrated its eighth annual Musical Instrument Gift Day, where pawnbrokers from around the country made donations of musical instruments to organizations in need. This year, the NPA has seen an impressive response from pawnbrokers nationwide to the call to give. Donations have been made by members of the NPA to The Mr. Hollands Opus Foundation, including monetary and gently-used and new musical instruments. Additionally, pawnbrokers have made charitable contributions to various community and student organizations in honor of Gift Day.
The Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation donates musical instruments to under-funded schools across the country in an effort to give students the many benefits of music education, help them achieve more in school, and inspire creativity and expression through playing music. Hundreds of thousands of students have benefited and thousands of instruments have been donated to 1,441 school music programs across the country.
The Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation has helped NPA members contribute to multiple schools and put musical instruments into the hands of young musicians since 2012. Mrs. Mancini, the daughter of famed composer and educator Henry Mancini, notes, “We know that music heals and helps children cope.” The Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation was inspired by the acclaimed motion picture, Mr. Holland’s Opus, the story of the profound effect a dedicated music teacher had on generations of students.
December 6th is also National Pawnbrokers Day, which coincides with St. Nicholas Day. Saint Nicholas of Myra is famed for his generosity to the poor and for his penchant for secretly leaving gifts for people in need. St. Nicholas, recognized in America as Santa Claus, was canonized as the Patron Saint of pawnbroking, and his three bags of gold soon became the international symbol of pawnbrokers.
Now in its eighth year, Gift Day has helped members of the National Pawnbrokers Association donate thousands of musical instruments to organizations supporting underprivileged children, families, and veterans. It’s never too late to help make a difference in your community. Musical Instrument Gift Day encourages NPA members and all who seek to support public school music education to donate musical instruments and funds to the Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation year round. The NPA works to provide independent pawnbrokers nationwide with resources and tools to strengthen the pawn industry. NPA members are committed to operating their businesses in such a manner as to enhance and promote the positive and professional image of all pawnbrokers. Members believe in establishing positive and long-lasting relationships with local, state, and federal government officials. The NPA is the industry’s only national association and is located in Keller, TX.
