PAX - Program of Academic Exchange Hires Ewers as Local High School Exchange Coordinator
Baxter Springs, KS (PRWEB) July 31, 2015 -- PAX – Program of Academic Exchange announced that Robin Ewers of Baxter Springs has been hired by the organization as its regional Community Coordinator. Ewers is responsible for the education organization’s operations in eastern Kansas and the Joplin-Miami area. She will work with local host families and schools to bring high school students to the area to study for an academic year.
PAX’s non-profit program participates in multiple State Department and federal programs, allowing students from more than 70 countries to live with local families, study in local high schools with peers, and learn about the United States while also teaching host families and friends about customs in their own countries.
Families in Neosho and Riverton are already prepared to welcome their exchange students from South Korea and Thailand respectively for the 2015-2016 school year. Ewers says she is eager to watch local families experience what her family experienced when they hosted a high school student from Poland.
“She became part of our family,” Ewers said. “And she’s returning to Kansas soon to start attending college at Pitt State. Even though she’s back in Poland now, she and my daughter communicate every day, and we all are anxious to see her again.”
A Texas native, Ewers has lived in many places throughout the heartland. She and her family settled in Kansas last year after most recently living in South Dakota. A frequent volunteer, she has worked with families experiencing financial difficulties in Fort Worth and Nebraska. The Ewers are grandparents and provide foster care to children in need.
Although the school year is set to start soon, Ewers reports that there are still openings in local schools to bring foreign high school exchange students to the area.
