PayIt, LLC Takes 1st at 84th Annual US Conference of Mayors Civic Tech Pitch Contest
(PRWEB) July 06, 2016 -- On Monday, June 28, a group of five startups from around the United States were invited to present their businesses to over 200 Mayors who were in Indianapolis participating in the 84th Annual United States Conference of Mayors. Each startup had three minutes to pitch their big idea in front of all attending Mayors and take questions from a panel of judges including Outgoing USCM President, Mayor Stephanie Rawlings Blake (Baltimore), Incoming President, Mayor Mick Cornett (Oklahoma City) and 2nd Vice President, Mayor Mitch Landrieu (New Orleans) and Mayor Frank Ortis (Pembroke Pines). PayIt, NextRequest, OpenCities, Citibot and PlanIT Impact battled it out and PayIt, LLC won first place and $10,000 and second place winner, OpenCities walked away with $5000. All other participants received $1000.
PayIt has developed a mobile and web application that simplifies the way individuals transact with government for various services -- ranging from utilities, citations, taxes, business registrations and other transactions by allowing users to set up a profile and manage various payments of their choice.
The recent win in Indianapolis, is the latest in a string of exciting announcements for the company. In June, PayIt was also announced as one of 19 finalists (out of 200 that applied) for Amazon’s City on a Cloud competition for its use of the AWS Gov Cloud as the foundational layer of the patent-pending platform. And, in March of this year the company took third place at a similar event at SxSW (South by Southwest) in Austin.
Luke Norris (head of local government solutions for PayIt), who presented at the conference said of the win “It’s exciting for us, but also exciting for residents in so many cities to see that their Mayor recognizes the value and importance of streamlining government services.”
Kansas City, MO Mayor Sly James, who participated in the event said ,“it was exciting to see two Kansas City companies (PayIt and PlanIT Impact) make strong pitches on a national stage. Kansas City's entrepreneurial community cannot be beat. Congratulations to PayIt - nothing pleases me more than seeing a Kansas City company win."
