Pear Deck Selected to Participate in Google Demo Day
Iowa City, IA (PRWEB) February 25, 2015 -- The edtech company Pear Deck was invited Friday to pitch at Google for Entrepreneurs Annual Demo Day in California in April.
The Pear Deck team will make a presentation April 2 at Google’s headquarters in Mountain View, Calif. The event will feature 12 different startups from across North America.
Eleven startups were selected by Google in partnership with best-of-breed co-working spaces and startup accelerators from specific cities. Pear Deck was selected by Google for its final spot in a public call for submissions, rising to the top among a “massive number of competitors.”
The startups will present ideas ranging from a new energy drink to rental property management software. Pear Deck was also the only education technology startup accepted to make a pitch.
At the Google Demo Day in 2014, Steve Case, former chairman of AOL, made a surprise investment of $100,000 in each of the 10 presenting startups.
According to Pear Deck co-founder and CEO Riley Eynon-Lynch, this recognition comes at an exciting time for the company: “It’s an honor to represent the edtech community at this event, and the timing is pretty perfect for us. It’ll be really helpful to meet more people in the Google ecosystem, and it’ll be fun to meet the other startups.”
This announcement comes after a series of other exciting wins for the young company, which was founded in January 2014. In January 2015 the team was selected for the inaugural cohort of the Village Capital EdTech Accelerator. In February Pear Deck was selected as one of 10 finalists in the LAUNCHedu event at SXSWedu.
Eynon-Lynch said, “Pear Deck has the power to fundamentally transform the culture of a school by making it fun and easy for teachers to engage students much more during class.”
