Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) June 29, 2015 -- Pearson today announced the newest member of its aimsweb family of applied learning assessment products, aimswebPlus. Attendees at ISTE 2015 in Philadelphia this week will get a sneak peek of the new digital Response to Intervention (RTI) and tiered instruction solution, which will be available for back-to-school 2016.
Used by thousands of school districts around the country, aimsweb is an assessment, data management and reporting system. Designed to universally screen and monitor student progress, aimsweb uses brief, valid, and reliable measures of reading, math, language arts and behavior.
With aimswebPlus, teachers will have a new suite of assessments more closely aligned with standards along with the ability to administer a battery of measures that yields additional reporting information to inform instruction. Additionally, beginning at second grade, assessments will be online, making them easy and convenient to administer.
Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools (MNPS), the 42nd largest district in the United States, is one of many school districts around the country that has turned to aimsweb to support RTI procedures. The district serves a diverse community of 85,000 students with about 78 percent living in poverty, but also many coming from wealthy suburban communities. About 30 percent of the student population is from non-English speaking families, representing more than 130 languages.
Dottie Critchlow, Ed.D., Executive Officer for Instructional Support Services, said, “aimsweb provides a benchmark to help us understand each student’s fluency and automaticity of skill acquisition. The regular benchmarking windows help us evaluate our instructional effectiveness and personalize the support for students who need enrichment, reteaching, or interventions. Our students need to be proficient with grade level skills in order to engage in the complex levels of tasks with our state curriculum standards.”
Critchlow and her team are looking forward to the capabilities in aimswebPlus that will help them further their mission of providing a high quality education to every student. She said, “aimswebPlus will streamline the effort and time that we currently spend with various measures to assess students’ demonstration of standards as well as basic skills. We struggle to correlate the data from multiple assessments to define each student’s progress and learning needs. aimswebPlus will help us provide easy to understand information to parents and students about academic progress.”
This new suite of assessments preserves the integrity and validity of aimsweb, a classroom assessment pioneer that has empowered educators and informed instruction for students for more than 15 years, but also delivers new online measures and reports to better meet the needs of standards-based curriculum.
“Educators around the country have come to rely on aimsweb to provide critical insights into individual student progress that helps them ensure that all students remain on the path to success in school, college and career,” said Alistair Van Moere, Ph.D., head of Pearson’s Assessment Product Solutions group. “By working closely with the education community, we are making aimsweb Plus an even more powerful and predictable tool for helping teachers to improve student performance.”
On aimswebPlus, teachers, administrators, and specialists will be able to share rich information in a variety of easy-to-digest formats. Reporting feedback capabilities span a wide spectrum, from individual student progress to holistic district performance.
Over the coming year, the aimswebPlus development team will continue to collaborate with educators throughout the United States to develop the new learning environment for the tool, through a beta test program beginning in the fall of 2015 and continuing through the spring of 2016.
