Pearson Collaborates With Red Clay Consolidated School District to Offer GradPoint Online Courses to Hospitalized Students
Baltimore, Md. (PRWEB) August 02, 2016 -- Today Pearson announced a three-year collaboration with Red Clay Consolidated School District in Wilmington, Delaware, to provide GradPoint® online and blended learning courses to hospitalized students.
The new collaboration gives students in grades 6-12 who are hospitalized and homebound with diabetes, sickle-cell anemia, severe asthma, cancer and other illnesses that preclude attendance at traditional school an opportunity to attend First State School with their peers at Wilmington Hospital while receiving the medical treatment they need. First State School is co-sponsored by Christiana Care and the Delaware Department of Education through Red Clay Consolidated School District.
“We firmly believe in providing all students access to a high-quality education,” said Patricia Hoge, Ph.D., executive vice president of curriculum and instruction and chief academic officer for Connections Education. “Hospitalized and homebound students are often unable to attend school during traditional hours. We are pleased to offer an education solution that allows them the flexibility to focus on their health and their studies at their own pace.”
Peggy Strang, educational diagnostician at Red Clay Consolidated School District, added, “Integrating GradPoint into our program underscores our mission to deliver a quality education in a safe and secure learning environment. We strive to provide innovative education options to children who might not otherwise have access to personalized learning—so they can learn with their peers and be better prepared for their futures.”
Pearson’s GradPoint platform provides a comprehensive hospital and homebound program with technology that enables teachers to identify and address the instructional needs of students who have gaps in their school experience. GradPoint delivers rigorous standards-based curriculum, assessments, student data, and reports. State-certified teachers with Red Clay School District provide instruction for First State School in accordance with the student's Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and Delaware State Content Standards. Connexus®, an award-winning school management system, allows educators to closely track each student’s progress and make sophisticated, data-driven decisions.
