Pearson Debuts Enhancements to GradPoint, Award-Winning Platform for Online and Blended Learning, at TCEA 2016
Austin, TX (PRWEB) February 03, 2016 -- Schools and districts around the country can now take personalized learning to the next level with today’s launch of the newest updates to GradPoint™. Debuting today at TCEA 2016, the next generation of Pearson’s award-winning platform for online and blended learning features an enhanced learning management system, an expanded library of digital learning resources and new capabilities for customization.
Mountain Education Charter High School (MECHS) in Cleveland, Ga., is one of hundreds of schools and districts around the country that relies on GradPoint to help prepare its students for success. A second-chance school, MECHS offers a year-round evening program across 11 sites to help at-risk students earn a high school diploma. While all students receive personal attention from the school’s instructional staff, it is also crucial that they have access to a rigorous, standards-based curriculum.
“We want what’s best for our students,” said Sheri Hardin, Ph.D., MECHS assistant school superintendent. “Because we’re dealing with an at-risk population, if a program is cumbersome or hard to navigate, students become easily frustrated and then that defeats the purpose.”
With GradPoint, MECHS gained a curriculum that has a “very high bar,” said Dianne Hardy, a math teacher. Since transitioning to GradPoint just two years ago, MECHS has awarded 574 high school diplomas. Hardin credits the platform's flexibility and self-paced learning with helping the school further its mission. “The rigor of it,” said Hardin, “prepares students for post-secondary education."
“Blended learning requires three things: a meaningful online component, a significant, supervised onsite component; and data capture that allows for personalized instruction,” said Mickey Revenaugh, director, New School Models, Pearson and co-founder and executive vice president of Connections Education. “With its new capabilities, GradPoint now provides the support for personalization that is necessary for a successful blended learning environment.”
GradPoint’s catalog of more than 350 courses now features access to open educational resources through a digital library, dynamic customization features and opportunities for students to create their own learning paths. The platform’s highly customizable learning management system allows educators to create their own content libraries and successfully personalize learning for every student. GradPoint’s powerful assessment platform measures, tracks and reports on student growth, student choice and when to provide instructional interventions. GradPoint supports all blended learning models, including classroom rotation, station rotation and flipped learning. Its resources can be used for credit-recovery, project-based learning, and competency-based learning, response to intervention, remediation, acceleration and special education.
