Pearson Launches Next Generation of Proven Personalized Reading and Math Solution for K-8 Learners
New York, NY (PRWEB) August 26, 2014 -- Schools and districts around the country are increasingly personalizing the learning process to ensure that all students are on track for meeting and exceeding today’s more rigorous learning goals and graduating college career-ready. To continue to support educators in this critical mission, Pearson today unveiled the newest update to SuccessMaker, its research-based, award-winning personalized digital math and reading curriculum for grades K-8.
SuccessMaker adapts to the unique learning needs of each individual student, continuously analyzing performance, identifying areas for remediation or acceleration, and effectively estimating the amount of time necessary for students to reach achievement levels.
For more than four decades, SuccessMaker has personalized reading and math instruction for young learners around the country. Beginning in the 2010-2011 school year, district leaders at Killeen Independent School District in Texas turned to SuccessMaker to help them fill in gaps in student knowledge in reading and math. Killeen has a unique opportunity to work with students of parents stationed at Ft. Hood Army Post. Over 50 percent of the students in Killeen schools are the children of military parents. Due to the frequency of military post changes, Killeen leaders were grappling with a student mobility rate of nearly 30 percent, a disruption in education that is especially challenging for the 11 percent of Killeen's students who have been identified as needing special education services.
In the 2010-2011 school year, Killeen district leaders integrated SuccessMaker into the special education program and quickly saw significant acceleration in student progress. For example, after only five months of learning with SuccessMaker, students in special education at Harker Heights High School demonstrated 1.13 years of academic growth in reading and 1.43 years academic growth in math. Additionally, by the end of the 2013-2014 school year, 92 percent of 8th grade students in special education at Manor Middle School who were building reading skills with SuccessMaker passed the state reading assessment on their first attempt.
Killeen special education teachers value SuccessMaker as a trusted partner in the classroom. Ruth Roberts, English language arts and reading special education resource teacher at Manor Middle School, said, “SuccessMaker helped me see which skills students were not mastering and re-teach those during instruction. I have seen all my students grow academically, which created success in other core classes. One student came to me in the 6th grade and was basically a beginning reader. He is now leaving for high school and has made almost four years of growth and has developed the skills he needs to function in high school.”
