Pediatric Nurse Practitioners Join Campaign to Advocate for Global Vaccines
Washington, D.C. (PRWEB) March 16, 2016 -- Today, the United Nations Foundation’s Shot@Life campaign, which helps expand access to life-saving childhood vaccines globally, announced a partnership with the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP). Together, the partners will help recruit and train pediatric advanced practice nurses as global immunization advocates, also known as Shot@Life Champions, to support the campaign’s movement to expand access to life-saving vaccines for children around the world.
“Pediatric advanced practice nurses are core to our mission,” said Devi Thomas, Director, UN Foundation’s Shot@Life campaign. “They understand the importance of childhood immunizations and with support from the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners, we hope to expand access to life-saving vaccines for children living in the hardest to reach areas of the globe.”
With more than 8,000 members, NAPNAP serves as the professional association for all pediatric-focused advanced practice registered nurses. Established in 1973, it is the only national organization dedicated to improving the quality of health care for infants, children and adolescents, and to advancing the role of its members in providing that care.
“Being on the front lines of diagnosing and treating children for more than 40 years, our members have firsthand experience with the positive impact that immunizations have in preventing disease and saving lives,” said NAPNAP President Cathy Haut, DNP, CPNP-AC, CPNP-PC, CCRN. “We look forward to partnering on the Shot@Life campaign to help advocate for the eradication of common diseases that are taking the lives of young children every day in developing nations through increased access to immunization programs.”
Around the world, every 20 seconds, a child dies from a vaccine-preventable disease. NAPNAP joins a growing contingent of movement building partners who help advance Shot@Life’s mission to reduce vaccine-preventable childhood deaths by expanding access to vaccines globally. Through awareness, fundraising, and advocacy, NAPNAP will contribute to the growing network of more than 1,000 Shot@Life Champions across the country and an online community of more than 300,000 supporters who advocate in support of expanding access to global childhood immunizations.
