PenFed to Host Qualifying Event for International Golf Competition
ALEXANDRIA, Va. (PRWEB) June 03, 2015 -- In the spirit of celebrating the bravery of America’s Wounded Warriors, PenFed Credit Union will host the first U.S. qualifying event for the 2015 Simpson Cup at TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm in Potomac, Md. on June 8-9, 2015.
“The Simpson Cup showcases the sheer courage and intestinal fortitude of America’s Wounded Warriors. The event highlights the art of the possible and the power of camaraderie and the human spirit. I’m overjoyed that PenFed has such a wonderful opportunity to play a role in supporting those who have given so much in the defense of our nation,” said James Schenck, president and CEO of PenFed.
“The tournament raises funds for the On Course Foundation, which has done remarkable work in helping our wounded heroes overcome great adversity. That work aligns perfectly with our corporate values and our tradition of supporting the nation’s defenders and those who support them,” said Schenck.
On Monday, June 8, 2015, American Wounded Warriors vying for an opportunity to go head-to-head against their British counterparts will shoot a pro-am style practice round with key PenFed Partners, who generously led the way in reserving foursomes for this charitable event. While only a few slots are available, golfers can still be accommodated. The fellowship will continue into the evening with a PenFed-hosted reception at the TPC Potomac Clubhouse.
Golfers who make the cut the next day during the qualifying round will represent the United States as defending champions in the Ryder-style Simpson Cup on Sept. 20-23, 2015 at the Royal St George's Golf Club located in Sandwich, Kent, England. St George’s is one of the premier golf clubs in the United Kingdom. Team USA secured its first victory in the 4 year-old Simpson Cup competition at Bethesda, Md.’s storied Congressional golf course last year.
