Penn Foster Adds New Common Core Courses to Robust Catalog of More Than 100 Individual High School Courses
Scranton, Penn. (PRWEB) July 19, 2016 -- Penn Foster, Inc., a leader in skill-building online and blended learning solutions for today’s workforce, announced it has made available to its clients eight Common Core-aligned courses, four mathematics courses and four English Language Arts (ELA) courses.
The new classes, aligned to Common Core standards, are designed to be current, applicable and academically rigorous. They are part of the overall curricula available to employer, youth organization, nonprofit and other clients administering Penn Foster’s High School Completion Program or individual high school courses.
The expanded Common Core-aligned mathematics classes include new geometry, algebra and precalculus courses. The common core-aligned ELA courses promote the development of analytical skills and deeper understanding of literary and informational texts for each grade level. Penn Foster created and launched new science and history courses that align to other educational standards, including biology classes that approach Next Generation Science Standards, and an American history class based on a textbook aligned to several Pennsylvania state standards.

The Common Core standards are designed to ensure that students graduating from high school are prepared to take credit-bearing introductory courses in two- or four-year college programs, or to enter the workforce. With the addition of more Common Core-aligned classes, Penn Foster clients ranging from employers, colleges, and youth organizations offering high school completion programs, to school districts offering credit recovery and dropout retrieval programs, can offer more rigorous classes that comply with these standards, now being implemented in 42 U.S. states.
The Common Core State Standards Initiative details what K–12 students should know in English language arts and mathematics at the end of each grade. The initiative, sponsored by the National Governors Association (NGA) and the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO), seeks to establish consistent educational standards across the states and ensure that students graduating from high school are prepared to enter credit-bearing courses at college programs or to enter the workforce.
